Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park Part 1

We got up the other morning and decided to do some sightseeing. We got into the truck and headed into Moses Lake for some fuel. Then we turned on the GPS and started to look for some place to go. We picked the Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park. It was really a neat place to go to. This place has pieces of petrified trees all over it. They have been found in the nearby area years ago and decided to make a state park out of it. The trees were petrified during volcanic activity. Here are a few of the pieces that were inside on display. If you notice, they mark the specimens as to what type of tree it came from. The front one is the spruce. And then right behind it the pine. They also have a ginkgo tree. Both petrified and real live trees. These trees are grown in oriental gardens. The leaf is a different form that starts to split as it gets larger. They have 3 of the Ginkgo trees on the property. They started them from seeds. Now here are some of the petrified trees that they have on the outside of the museum. You really need to look closely at what looks like smooth stones. It was really amazing to see these! Oh, did I mention that this was along the Columbia River? It was really pretty! After we left the park, we decided to drive around the area. There was a State Park down the road that had a boat launch and a campground. We have been very impressed with the state parks here in Washington. They are very well kept and cheap and they have full hook-ups. And they can accommodate any size rig, at least most of them can.  I will post more pictures of our drive in the next blog.
