Part 2 of our drive to Ginkgo Petrified Forest State Park.

Well, like I said, we decided to drive around the area. We went down the road to the state park to look at the campground. The drive was really pretty. It ran along the river. This is the boat launch area of the park. It was quite busy. We were surprised that the river was a little rough. We thought it was hazy due to the heat. But I was told that this is smoke coming down from Canada. Can’t verify it but it makes sense. Here we are looking down the river at a dam. We stopped along the road to look at all of the rocks that have fallen off of the mountain onto the edge of the road. They must come around all the time and pick up the big ones. We just kept hoping nothing would fall on us as we drove by! LOL! This is the opposite side of the road from the river. Water coming over the dam. A very small dam compared to the Grand Coulee Dam. We love going on the back roads around here. You see so much of the country side by doing the back roads. And we always have the GPS to get us back home. Just in case we get lost. This was just as we came to the dam. This would have been a lot prettier if it was on a clear day. Around here on a clear day you can see for miles. We can see Mt Rainer and its about 200 miles or so from us. As we are driving down this road, Rick kept remarking that they do not believe in guard rails and the drop off on both sides of the roads were real deep. We come upon some orchards that were protected by real tall trees. As we kept going hoping to find a road to cross over the river so we could head back home, we come to the end of the road. I mean, we never passed a sign saying dead end road or anything. So we turned around and headed back to the highway. We decided to go home the back road instead of the major highway. Here is a little waterfall along side of the road. Then I turned around and looked back at the river. As we were heading back, Rick noticed a dead tree. But I did not have my camera ready. So then I started to look for another dead tree to take a picture of for my dear friend LaVon. Rick asked me how the dead tree thing started with LaVon so I tried to explain it to him. So this one is for you, LaVon! Notice it has a live one right behind it. Love you girl!!! And as we were getting closer to home, we saw this. An over turned tractor-trailer. Hope the driver is ok. The truck cab was pretty messed up on the drivers side. We were really tired when we got home. Did nothing but relax the rest of the evening.
