Wichita Mountains

Friday, Don and LaVon took Rick and I to the Wichita Mountain area of Oklahoma. The main reason for the trip was to go to the Meers Restaurant for a hamburger. This place is called Hamburger Heaven and everyone says you have to eat there. So off we went in Don’s truck, since he basically new where we were going. We passed thru a town and saw these at a museum for the Indians102_3430Don drove around the parking lot so we could get the pictures. Then on we go. We had no idea that Oklahoma had such diverse scenery.102_3444 Here is the restaurant.102_3442 It was nice to see the sign that said “United We Stand, In God We Trust” on the outside of the building. We all ordered our food after a little wait in line to get a table. Here is Don and LaVon.102_3441 They are always smiling. They have been such a blessing to us since we have been here. We just love them to death! Some more scenery from the ride after lunch.102_3447 The buffalo are just roaming free thru this area. We then stopped at an area called the Holy City of the Wichita’s. I will do another blog on that place. It was awesome! After leaving the Holy City we drove around and looked at some more of the scenery.102_3476 102_3506 More buffalo relaxing. We found a couple of lakes. 102_3507102_3514 By this second lake the Texas Longhorns were grazing.

102_3520This one was right by the road. I missed getting the one that was crossing the road. No fences here. I think there is a main fence around the perimeter of the entire wildlife area. We had such a good time enjoying the sights. We found a visitor/info center and stopped to take a look around and to find out where we were. 102_3522 This was etched into the wall. It was awesome! It was very interesting to read about the area and the wildlife.  102_3539An armadillo just hanging around. We have seen a lot of them along the side of the road as we travel. Now this next guy was out wandering around the info center.102_3527 Now this is getting up close and personal with a buffalo.

102_3532We just kept hoping that he would not keep coming and go thru the plate glass window. As we were heading home, we stopped in a town to get some fruit. Don and LaVon got a yellow meated watermelon. We had never seen one that was yellow on the inside. It was pretty good. Don said it was a bit over ripe, but still good. Really juicy and sweet. And of course I did not have my camera when it was cut open. Oh well. By the time we got home, we were pretty well beat. The weather had been in the low 100’s and we were out in it for a while. A great time with great friends seeing another part of our great country. Coming up is the Holy City.
