Having fun with very special people!!!

Buddy and Shelley Wright are here for a short visit. We met them in Arizona and they were parked next to us. You couldn't ask for any better neighbors. We hit it off right away and it feels like we have known them forever. We really miss them when we are not around them. But anyway they came in on Monday and we went out to lunch. We had found a small mom and pop place in Oak Harbor that had good food. So off to eat. We really do that well, eat I mean. We love to eat. After lunch, and by the way it was raining again on and off. Go figure. So we took them around the area and showed them the sights. We came back to the camper for dinner. A hobo dinner with potatoes, steak, broccoli, and onions. We put them in foil and put them on the grill. Boy, was that good. We then took them over to the cottage we had reserved for them. It wasn't to bad. They charge for linens, so Shelley had brought there own. We had made plans for golf on Tuesday morning and then maybe over to Put in Bay for the afternoon. We got up Tues and we went back to the same restaurant for breakfast and then on to the golf course. Buddy and Shelley had picked up 2 golf clubs for us at the annual tent sale they have when the Buick open comes to Flint. I got a 4/5 hybrid and I love it. It is pink. Autumn, even though you don't golf, you would like the club. My daughter-in-law loves the color pink. Anyway Rick got a 3 hybrid. He seems to have to get used to using his instead of his 3 iron. So we are out golfing and the weather was absolutely gorgeous!!!! We did both good and bad, depending on the hole and how we hit the ball. But is was fun because of the people we were with. After golfing we stopped at Wendy's for lunch and Buddy said, "Are you still interested in going to the island?" And we all said yes. So we headed off to Miller Boat Line to catch the ferry. Of course we got there just as the one was leaving. They leave every half hour so we didn't have long to wait. This is the dock area. Buddy and Shelley. See Rick is wearing his hat to protect him from the sun. His forehead is healing really good. Half the time he does not need to wear a band-aid on it. Here comes the ferry. It takes vehicles as well as people across Lake Erie to Put-in-Bay. Here is us on the ferry.

After we got off the ferry we went to rent a golf cart to drive around the island. We all knew we were not going to walk and did not want to take the train. This is Rick, Buddy and Shelley with the lake in the background. Did I say it was an absolutely gorgeous day? We stopped at a candy place and Buddy was just being Buddy. And Rick, Buddy and Shelley were being tourist. This place had all kinds of madi-gra hats. I can't decide who looks the best. How about you guys? Want to judge? Leave a comment. We went to the Perry's Monument. You could not get a good picture up close because it is so tall. So this is from down the road. And this is from another part of the island. This is in front of the fountain in the center of town. It was so pretty and did I mention the weather was gorgeous? It was around 79 and the sun was not hiding behind any clouds for a change. This is a house that looks like it was built out of the front of a ship. We found this at one end of the island by a simple little park that was not visited by tourist. It was absolutely the neatest thing in the world! We couldn't get real close but we loved seeing it. And it is on the waterfront of course and surrounded by trees and flowers. This is the picture right beside it in the park. Shelley kept saying how she loves being around the water. I agree. We both love Florida and the gulf. But any water is neat unless it's in the drive and you can't park there. Like our campsite. It was getting late and we decided to head back to the dock and wait for the ferry. On the way we found the 9 hole golf course on the island. They charge 10.00 for 9 holes and you are not allowed to drive a golf cart on the course. We thought this was funny as we have been driving a golf cart all afternoon. Did I mention that the golf carts have seat belts and lights and turn singles. The horn on ours did not work but most of them did have ones that did. You can even rent clubs to play. We didn't since we had played 18 holes that morning. We went back to the dock and Rick and Buddy dropped us ladies off at the dock and took the cart back to the rental place. We were sitting on the deck and this little fellow came up looking for good. I think you can click on the picture to make it bigger. Every time I got the camera out he would move to a different spot. I think he was shy. And just like on the trip over, we missed the ferry by 5 minutes. Then we had to wait about 45 minutes for the next one. So went down to the waiting area and it was a good thing we did. By the time the ferry came people were backed up to the top of the hill waiting to get on the ferry to go back to the mainland. There was to be one more ferry at 9:00 and if you didn't make that one you were on the island till morning. This was the ferry coming to pick us up. The one in the foreground was shut down for the night. When we got back to the mainland we went out for pizza. By the time we got back to the campground it was almost 10:00. Buddy and Shelley were leaving in the morning to go back to Michigan. If you see Buddy you have to ask him if he had a good time in OH. He is such a Michigan fan! We loved having them here. And Rick has to get up early Wed to head to Elyria to drive truck for a few days. This Bud that we sold the mower to is who Rick worked part time for driving semi's before we went on the road. What they do, is drive different kinds of trucks with different types of trailers testing new anti-lock brakes. They have to put 5000 miles on for one study program to check out how they work. This will help with fuel prices as they are. And it seems that everyone is working in one way or another to make extra cash to travel with. I guess we are no different.
